NEWS FROM 2002-2003

JERSEYS are on track! Take a sneak peak at the approved design. To place an order, call 231-2212 or email Matt Van Dyne pronto! First week of March is the arrival date, so place your order ASAP to reserve one (that means in the next 2 weeks).

Check out the STATS LIST for the race team. If any corrections are needed, email.

Hope you all had a great break and holiday! We've added a whole bunch of race dates and ride times to the calendar so go take a look-see. Collegiate cycling race dates are up, and PSU Cycling is now an official National Collegiate Cycling Association member. Under this organization we will be racing as a college team aginst other Div 1 and 2 schools in the North Central Collegiate Cycling Conference. The first race is at KU on March 29, the second at NDSU on April 5-6, third at NU on April 13-14, and the final Conference Championship at UM on April 26. These are road races and all levels are welcome, so if you want to compete, order your jersey and hop into the carpool! Check calendar for more info!

If you're wanting to race this spring/summer, then I hope we'll be seeing lots of you on the upcoming rides. It's still roller season for the time being but with El Nino in effect, our weather should soon be warm enough for some spring riding. Thanks to all who bought T-shirts...having our club represented by cool people like you on campus is important. Don't forget to come by the shop or email with any questions regarding racing, rides, etc...once the season gets started, everyone is busy busy, and we'd love to have a few newbie racers on board this year.

Those who came out to show off in the Christmas Parade report that all of their toes are still attached. As for the jerseys, we're still working on the finer points, like Gorilla placement, zipper length, and how the heck you find your size in spandex. I mean, is there a difference between small/large (it's elastic!) I guess some of us need more elastic. Spandex is very interesting. (And on so many levels.) But moving right along, t-shirt orders were placed on Tuesday, Dec. 3, with e-Promotions of Pittsburg. We had 25 people sign-up for one...so we got 'em CHEAP! Yes! It'll take 10-15 working days...that means expect them after exams. Good luck on those, by the way!

General meeting was held Monday, Nov. 25th, 2002. Click here to read all about it.

JERSEYS! That's right kiddos, in a few weeks the club should have a big order going to Sugoi (a high-quality Canadian firm) for our very first official jerseys. We would post the proof here, however the design is still under consideration by the trademark office. It's a catchy black/crimson/gold getup, and no delay is anticipated for its approval. If you're alumni or would like to help support our team, you're also welcome to order! Payment is needed up front, the expected price is $50-60, fairly cheap for custom designs. Plus, you're paying for the basic jersey cost, instead of retail. The more people we have, the cheaper it is, as those things go. Once the order goes in, that's it 'til next fall. They'll arrive in plenty of time for next spring's race season. Stay tuned, when the design's approved we'll post it here!

COME ALONG TO A BIKE DEMO: On Saturday, Nov. 16, a carpool is heading up to Shawnee Mission Park in Lenexa, KS, for the Trek/ Klein/ Gary Fisher/ LeMond Demo. Traveling across the U.S, this team of reps sets up whatever bike you wish for you to test drive on the trails or pavement. All sizes and models are yours for the choosing. Ever wanna goof around on the Klein Palomino, Gary Fisher 29'er, or Trek Elite 9.8? Now's your chance! Details.

Greetings fellow bikelings. While not much is in store for us during the remainder of the lovely winter season, use the gray days to buff up! Spring will be here before we know it. Our racing season starts dark and early, with the annual 12 MILES OF HELL. This race can only be described as pure evil from start to finish! In fact, it's so tough that organizers take pity on those who finish the course, handing out "certificates of completion." And trust us, only 70% of the 800 or so riders who enter walk home with one in hand...

Date is set for March 2 & 3, 2003

Riders were recently invited to attend the dedication ceremony at Cross Timbers State Park. Saturday, Sept. 28th found six members driving to Toronto, KS, for a dry run on brand new trails. Our riders were also photographed for the new Kansas State Parks Guide. Park volunteers hacked out 12 miles of new singletrack, kindly requesting our happy, seasoned racers to please go first! Following a small ceremony with local naturalists and girl scouts alike, our fearless cyclists hammered through the rocky, rolling, and open-meadow trail system. Rated a solid thumbs up by most, the park management strongly supports the use of their trails for cycling. In light of the current issues the IMBA has on its plate, we feel lucky to have another welcoming venue. Plans to develop an annual race are currently under consideration.

Roller training is the best way to stay aerobically fit indoors, in preparation for the next racing season. Often, newcomers find rollers a little frightening. However, like most challenges, it's overcome with a little effort, and is fun once you get the hang of it! It's not like a stationary bike at all. Your road or mountain bike is balanced on a set of free-turning cylinders, on which you pedal smoothly to maintain balance. Not only does it improve your balance, cadence (spinning speed) and pedal stroke smoothness, you are exposed to questionable genres of music as well!
